Perfect Stranger (Magnetic Man song)

Here it is. Next stop: main stage at V, right? Not quite. It is the absolute polar opposite of chillwave, and the perfect soundtrack to staggering around a laser-lit dancefloor with massive pupils.

They make for unlikely chart stars, then — but MM deserve respect for making this genre palatable even to people like me, who previously would have rather chiselled their own hip bones off than attend a dubstep night.

A good shot. It depicts Nick Cave and his dirty old men gazing at a girl in a bathtub and provides a slow, brooding soundtrack to her blasphemous fantasies, which explodes with groaning guitars and pulsating organs.

Great band, bad babysitters. Uneasy listening at its finest. The drugs may have gone but the horror remains on their first new material in 14 years, enough to make even Nick Cave shit in his tiny lavender-scented panties.

I Need Air

Yes, Magnetic Man is the dubstep sell-out album. Magnetic Man are not just a trio, but a supergroup consisting of members with name recognition Skream and Benga, who are joined by the relatively unknown Artwork wielding a superhero moniker to produce radio-friendly pop-techno that only faintly resembles the whole breadth of what constitutes dubstep these days, but which will no doubt be confused with it hereafter. Signed to a major label at a time when that should mean exactly nothing, Magnetic Man make music that sounds like a halfway point rendezvous between Croydon and Ibiza. All these factors seem to weigh negatively against Magnetic Man before an initial spin. Even when dubstep had extremely limited commercial viability, the two longtime Croydon mates made bangers.

British Broadcasting Corporation Home. Post categories: Reviews. I saved this one from yesterday's list of potential future hits for one important reason. It's too good. A song this distracting and singular deserves a bit of space to run around and be free.

W atching Skream, Benga and Artwork, dubstep's answer to Crosby, Stills and Nash, the recipe for success in live dance music seems incredibly simple. First, take great wodges of bass. Then add flashing lights, and lots of them. Finally, top up with yet more bass — more, indeed, than seems either possible or reasonable. Stop just short of causing physical pain. The elephantine bassline is dubstep's foundation stone, so its relatively minor role on Magnetic Man's recent debut album was a disappointment. Self-consciously pitched as an underground scene's concerted bid for mainstream popularity, the record was a little too compromised and earnest, opening with a solemn, string-led instrumental called Flying into Tokyo.

I actually saw them live about five times between and and their shows were super slick, professional and full of impact. I had followed their individual careers, particularly Skream and Benga, and dubstep as a subgenre of electronic music since the likes of Mala, Coki and Loefah had first burst onto the scene.

You suffocate my mind And now my atmosphere is crowded And you being here is makin' me Blow Blow Blow. You penetrate my space And now I'm looking out of place And you're makin' it hard for me I need air!

I've got to say that Katy B and her band were amazing, the live band totally complimented her style and brought the most out of her vocals. Katy B performed her funky house smash hit Tell Me which received a roaring reception from the crowd and had fans skanking in unison! This was the song which first brought Katy B to our attention, so it was a special moment to see her perform it live. She also dropped hits like Louder and had the crowd eating out the palm of her hand when she started to perform Perfect Stranger the track produced by the headline act.
