And many more believed because of his word. This is a very long Gospel text and that's how it ends. What do we draw from that? What are the principal points that we can make from that?

Clueless preaching about the Samaritan woman misses the point

Well bloggy friends. Because, perhaps…. Perhaps you can encourage. Perhaps you can throw ideas, stories and thoughts out there to me. And perhaps…. Really and truly according to that fancy dancy site meter there are more than ten of you….

The Lord is really showing me how quickly we can lose our passion. How quickly we can fade into the shadows. How quickly we can go from way up high to way down low. A few months ago, my heart was captured by a woman who is introduced to us in the book of John 4. The Samaritan Woman. I found this incredible video on youtube from Student Life. Have you ever had whispers behind your back of your sin?

Have you ever cried tears that seemed to never stop from the guilt, the shame and the weariness of your heart? Have you ever walked the road so alone and afraid and redemption seemed so far away? Then my friend…this message is for you.

This story is for you. And the healing is for you. Because there is hope. I too would have never expected to run into my Savior King at a well, in the midst of my darkness and sin. She must have felt her breath taken away, as she gathered her thoughts on what had just occurred. Yes, she was, the unlikely candidate for God to pick that day. She became the one known, loved and accepted by Him.

And on that day…nothing else mattered. All because a woman… unworthy, broken, torn apart, full of lies and full of a crown of sin…entered into the presence of the Lord, on one day. I so so loved this post and the clip you shared.. I have read this blog for a while now and have not commented before, but felt I had to just thank you for the encouragement..

I am sure in the past my inner man and the Samaritan woman would have been fast friends. He has done much to transform my thinking about myself.. Show Offscreen Content. Hide Offscreen Content. Learning from the woman at the well

In his gospel, John records a number of dramatic encounters between individuals and Jesus. As he travelled through Samaria once, Jesus stopped by a well to talk with a woman. The conversation that followed his request for a drink is a master class in how to draw people closer to God and to a living faith of their own. The following idea contains suggestions for exploring this Bible story with a children's group or as part of an all-age service.

Well bloggy friends. Because, perhaps…. Perhaps you can encourage.

He told me the story of how this song came to be. He was in the office at Wesley, waiting for a couple who had an appointment to talk about their wedding. The couple was late. Blanchard was getting more and more frustrated as he waited.

Fill My Cup, Lord

To our ears, he commands a woman to serve him, then seems to big-note himself. The request for water is a kindness of sorts, an acceptable way to engage with her. And as it happens, of course, she does. Jesus hints at what, for her, would be a major shift in who to be before God. She begins to get it, though, even as she rushes off to the townspeople with talk of a Messiah. I picture these people in struggle, forging an identity at their mountain of worship, held in contempt by Jews, and hauling that water. There are equivalent if different struggles for us. But Jesus says: if you know the one you are talking to, just ask me for water. I find myself wondering about this gushing spring, the fullness of that. What is it?

Prayer Tip: The Woman at the Well

Post by Guest Author. She was talking about how she felt in her Church. Her comment has haunted me. The image I have of Jesus from the Gospels is of one who went out of his way to welcome women at the table and in his ministry. Jewish culture in the first century was decidedly patriarchal.

When Jesus asked the Samaritan woman whom he met by the well to give him something to drink, she was taken aback. What could she offer? What was acceptable for her to offer? Jesus had greater confidence in her than she did in herself: he saw that she could be the one to proclaim the Good News to her community.

John 4:1-15 — On the woman at the well

May 15, Length: Thomas looks at the Gospel for the fifth Sunday of Pascha—a miraculous sign that at first glance doesn't seem to involve a miracle. The gospel reading at the Divine Liturgy of the fifth Sunday of Pascha is the reading about the encounter of Jesus with the woman of Samaria that he meets at the well.

Jesus had to go through Samaria. He came to a Samaritan city called Sychar, which was near the land Jacob had given to his son Joseph. Jesus was tired from his journey, so he sat down at the well. It was about noon. A Samaritan woman came to the well to draw water. The water that I give will become in those who drink it a spring of water that bubbles up into eternal life.
