The prank is quite funny and simple enough that anyone can do it. That prank start by coaxing your friend to wrap his legs around a lamppost, and have them sit down cross-legged. Unknown to many, this is actually a WW2 restraining technique. It use known as the Grape Vine maneuver, and is used to restrain and sometimes torture prisoners.

Although if she keeps trying to get up but looks like she's riding the pole, everyone else in the room's a winner. Im guessing most strippers have enough upper body strength to pull themselves up. Surprised this dude cant do that. It actually puts you in quite an awkward position to do that. It hurts to lean back so you put your weight on your knees which causes you to grip the pole. It's possible but harder than you might think.

Someone taught me this years ago. I remember thinking before they put me in it 'all I gotta do is pull up, I can do a single chin up, this will be no different'. The diameter of the pole in this case might prohibit a strong enough grip to pull up his own body weight You look like you could use an apostrophe.

I know this from my grandpa who survived ww2. He show me this while I was young and warned me not to try it unless someone is near. This is old partisans method how to immobilize someone with no rope. You just need shoe string to tie one hand to near tree or something fixed to be sure he cant clim up. My grandpa survived Nazi work camp and died about 15 years ago.

Edit: I am from Czech republic. Just to be clear, this is actually very dangerous if not properly supervised. They could try this and get dead, not just stuck. Edit: best source I can find right now res users need to click the link. There's text along with the picture. I'm happy you put this here.

Seriously, no one try this. Was used in Vietnam as well to restrain POW's, and can very well be fatal if you fall backwards. If I didn't read the comments I would have laughed at the video and went on with my day, then all this "seriously don't do it" made me want to try it. I even have a pole in my basement. I'm obviously not going to do it, but I can't help but feel there is at least one redditor out there now stuck to a pole. I'm sure you can lift yourself up with your arms, well, if you're not weak as piss.

That's why they have to tie one hand to something else. It's an awkward position to try and lift yourself up from though, and depends on whether there is enough grip. Lol I seriously just tried on our basement pole support.. I must not have done it right because I lifted myself out. I did some digging and that picture is from Capt. Fairbairn's book Get Tough! Armed Forces amazon link.

Here's a free pdf version go to pg44 if anyone's interested but it doesn't add any additional info. I am sincerely not kidding. I'm just putting this out there so some putz doesn't try this on their basement support column while he's home alone. Could you send someone round please? I value my spine too much. Definitely legit technique. I saw some people on YouTube get out easily Difference was a skinny pole. Seems like the bigger the better so long as you can get them in locking position.

A smaller pole allows the victim to slide their lower leg out of position. Would you happen to have a bucket or a hose, Bruh? It may sound stupid, but wouldn't the person be able to pull himself up with only his upper body? Not pull all the way, but enough so his left leg is straighter and so he can release the right leg? Eventually the position causes extreme muscle spasms which can lead to someone flinging themselves backwards and snapping their spine. Best source I can find. The natural reaction is to let go of your hands to relieve the pain, which forces you to fall backwards.

This unnatural position places pressure on your ribcage, and your breathing is restricted. Eventually, you pass out, and your lungs may collapse if you are not pulled out…. Take hold of his legs and lift him up the tree; then unlock his legs.

I know a lot of people might be laughing at you for taking this too seriously, but you're basically the warning label that keeps idiots from killing themselves because they wanted to make toast while taking a bath.

In a similar vein, if you duct tape someone to a wall, make sure to support their legs. Otherwise, if they begin to slip and are supported by their arms, they may accidentally be crucified.

To clarify, crucifixion kills you through suffocation - being supported solely by outstretched arms causes your chest to expand, forcing you into an inhaled position. It becomes impossible to exhale. You know, while we're on the topic of making sure you don't kill your friends while "pranking" them. There really is no way to get out. During the Vietnam war the Vietcong used this as a torture technique.

Also consider that if it is used in a POW situation, you've probably already been beaten, starved, and exhausted. I saw another comment to the effect of "Oh so why don't people just tie people up if you already need to bind the hands to make it effective".

You need a lot more rope than what is used to bind hands to effectively bind a full body. He's now a heavily tattooed, stretched ears, ultra spiritual, gay stoner, and jewlery maker, and all around sweetheart. I didn't really see that coming watching the show though. But I'm not really adding much to this lamp post conversation soooo Nooo way. We just happen to be at the same parties and have mutual friends. Really glad to see who he's grown into for some reason.

I came across this video that makes a series of claims based around a position that a person can apparently get stuck in around a pole, and unintentionally kill themselves:. The video demonstrates and explains a series of claims that people can't escape from this position without the aid of something else to pull them up such as a rope or another person , and after 15 minutes their leg muscles will cramp the cramping seems plausible , followed by throwing themselves backward in a manner that can result in their death. Although I'm particularly skeptical about the final death portion of this series of claims, my set of three questions are:. First, the evidence that this position actually works and has been used in practice comes from the book Get Tough! Armed Forces by then-Captain W.
